Descanso Gardens Will Remain Open as Outdoor-Open Venue

Descanso Gardens in La Cañada Flintridge has canceled all indoor programming and events and operates now as an outdoor-only venue due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) emergency.

In an announcement, Descanso Gardens’ management said they will be operating as an outdoor-only venue, “until the situation is safe again.”

“The health and safety of our visitors, staff, volunteers, and members are our highest priority,” the announcement said. “We will continue to act and respond based on the advice of government officials, public health authorities, and medical professionals, as well as, continue to implement increased safety and cleaning measures.”

Canceled events include Drop-in Origami, scheduled for Saturday, March 14; Radical Botany: Screening and Discussion, March 15; and Kintsugi Workshop, March 22.

Postponed events include Cultivate: Spring Blooms, which will be held on April 4; Urban Forager Cooking Class, postponed to April 19; Spring Flower Children’s Workshop, postponed to April 22; and 20/20 Joyful Visions: A Garden Club of America Show, postponed to April 25 and 26, the announcement said.

Descanso Gardens, located at 1418 Descanso Drive in La Cañada Flintridge, also asked its patrons to practice proper hygiene at all times, at home or outside.

“Stay at home if you are feeling sick or in a high-risk group for novel coronavirus. Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue or sleeve. Wash your hands frequently with soap and hot water. Avoid touching your face, mouth, and eyes. Practice simple social distancing strategies from those who are sick, such as verbal salutations instead of handshakes or hugs; not sharing utensils, cups,” the announcement said.
